Processing
The integration of text and/or number, audio, image, and/or video
- In order to process data that’s been collected, it must be imported into multimedia software (i.e. into library for imovie)
- multimedia software is used integrate the separate media types into a multimedia product
- multimedia software accepts media types in many different formats (i.e. audio in WAV or mp3 and video in MOV or mp4)
- Processing data in multimedia systems involves integrating different data types such as text, image, audio, etc.
- Data is first gathered and then imported all at once into multimedia software, such as Adobe Photoshop or iMovie
- Data can be integrated by:
Creating a library or directory to import data -
- a library is usually located within the application and organises the different data types. This feature is used to create interactivity.
Creating different screens, adding content and format, as well as creating hyperlinks -
- text is created in the software rather than collected beforehand and imported.
- the size or behaviour of data can be modified, for example, a sound recording could be trimmed or an image could be enlarged.
- creating links (hyperlinks to other media)
Final files are created for distribution and display -
- Some software uses multimedia to produce a presentable product, for example, a word document.
- Files are converged for many reasons, including saving storage space; easier organisation and for a more presentable final product.
Compression and Decompression of audio, video and images
Files often need to be compressed or decompressed for space and resolution reasons. For example, there may be occasions where you try to upload a file, but it comes up with this file is too large, or there may be occasions when you try to view an image but it is too pixelated. These are scenarios where files need to be compressed and decompressed, respectively.
